Immaculate Heart of Mary School

From the Principal’s Desk

My peace I give to you.  I do not give to you as the world gives.  Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It is with bitter sweet memories that I write my final From the Principal’s Desk Tuesday letter.

My five and a half years here at IHM have been filled with many joyful moments and memories, as together we have learned how to blend our respective families into one beloved school community.  As with any family, we have had our disagreements, hurts and dissatisfactions.  But the mutual love and respect have been what has endured and allowed us to grow in unexpected and extraordinary ways.

All of you should be as proud of your children as I am of them and of my faculty and staff.  They have been willing to learn how to follow Christ, to identify His presence within our midst and to learn how to make decisions which reflect His love and glory, all the time living life to its fullest.  This is a huge accomplishment and one which is rare in this day and age.  It has allowed us to embrace all who have asked to enter our school and benefit from their special gifts and talents.  As a school, this has made us unique.

As each of us prepares to begin the next leg of our life’s journey, it is tempting to focus on our heavy hearts.  However, while it is important to acknowledge those feelings, it is a mistake to allow those feelings to define our experience here at IHM.  Instead, we need to help each other remember that God has a larger plan which always serves our needs in the end, even though we may not understand it in the moment.  We need to celebrate the fact that we have “gone out with a bang and our heads held high”

The next few days will be filled with many classroom celebrations, our kindergarten Step Up and our 8th grade graduation.  There is much to celebrate.  I encourage you to celebrate not only your own children, but those of your extended family as well.  Please bring your children to the final 8th grade graduation from IHM on Friday, June 15th at 5:00 in the church.  It will be one final opportunity for all of us to be together.

Much love, affection and best wishes for the future,

Maureen E. Rooney, Principal
