School Programs - Our model recognizes the multi-faceted needs of children and their families. We believe in exposing our children to a variety of learning situations and subject areas. In addition to the traditional subjects, they explore music, art, technology, physical education and Spanish language and culture.
In 2007 we became involved with an Emotional Literacy research project with Yale University. We started in the 5th and 6th grades. This year we are rolling out the program into the entire school. All faculty are being trained in the Emotional Literacy methodology.
This year we have begun a new relationship with Villanova University. We are in the grant writing phase of funding a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Program.
In 2008, we became a Charter Member of the National Honor Society for Elementary Schools for grades 4, 5 and 6. We have the Aquinas Honor Society for our 7th and 8th graders and this year we began a Regents based Math I class. For those who need academic support, we offer math and English language arts remediation as well as counseling. We also have a full time nurse and access to an onsite after school program run by Kids Orbit. The Paul Effman School of Music provides our in-school music program as well as a separate after school musical instrument and band program. There is a parish sponsored sports program for evenings and weekends as well as on-site Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops.
We participate in a number of "Go Green" and community service initiatives. Each year we organize a textile recycling project for the community. We also are a collection station for recycling old cell phones and ink cartridges.
